Casalj Tenuta Rapitalà is an exciting white wines made from Catarratto grapes. A warm full-bodied white wine from Sicily with aromatic hints of sage, tomato leaves and caper flowers – to serve with fish, seafood, chicken or a Caesar salad.

Presentation vineyard

Rapitalà comes from the Arabic word Rabidh Allah and means Allah's river. This testifies Rapitalà's old history when the Arabs dominated Sicily for a period during the Middle Ages. In 1968, a large part of the vineyard was destroyed in an earthquake and everything needed to be re-built. Gigi Guarrasi and the Count Hugues Bernard de la Gatinais were newlyweds and decided to put the vineyard, which previously belonged to Gigi's grandfather, back on its feet. The vineyards are located between Camporeale and Alcamo on Sicily's north-west side. The property currently represent no less than 225 hectares of hilly terrain. The wine is grown on the hills 300-600 m above sea level. Today, the property has been acquired by the Gruppo Italiano Vini that invested hugely in the production plant.

Sommelier's advice

A bright yellow color with golden hues. A strong bouquet with aromas from Sicily and the Mediterranean; sage, tomato leaves and caper flowers. The palate is full-bodied and round and you feel the southern sun's effect on the wine. A white wine with great personality to drink to various fish dishes, chicken dishes or a hearty salad such as a Caesar salad.

Casalj from Tenuta Rapitalà is made from Catarratto grapes, grown in calcareous clay soil at 300-600 meters above sea level. The harvest is done in mid-September with controlled oxygen contact to preserve the aromas of the grapes. The grapes are pressed and fermented at controlled low temperature for more than 2 weeks. The wine is aged for 3 months in French oak barrels and is then stored on its lees until March before being bottled.
