Presentation vineyard

Maggiovini is a family winery created more than 50 years ago in Vittoria, located in the southeastern part of Sicily. Today it's Massimo and Barbara, the 3rd generation Maggio's who manage the vineyard that includes 50 hectares of land, of which 35 hectares of vineyard. The vineyards are cultivated organically, and the vinification methods mix tradition with new production methods and new tools. The soil has a typical, red and sandy character with a calcareous ground that guarantees the much needed amount of water for the vines to grow and feel good. Cerasuolo di Vittoria, the island's only DOCG wine, is the most exclusive wine, but other typically Sicilian and genuine wines are also produced such as Nero d'Avola, Frappato, Grillo, Catarratto and Insolia.

Sommelier's advice

A ruby red color with purple-colored hues. The fragrance is fruity with hints - mainly of wild cherries and forest berries - but also of herbs and plums. The palate is soft and rich with velvety tannins. A long lasting aftertaste. An elegant Nero d'avola to serve to grilled lamb or to the cheese tray.

Vigna di Pettineo from Maggiovini is made from 100% organically grown Nero d’Avola from the vineyards around the town of Vittoria. The grapes are harvested and galloped by hand. Only the best grapes are chosen. Long maceration, for 15 days, with the skin and fermentation at controlled temperature. The wine is stored for 9 months on steel tanks and then another 3 to 6 months in the bottle.
