Gulfi Rossojbleo 2017 - Red

Rossojbleo is a young and relatively light red wine made from Nero d'Avola grapes from the so-called oriental south coast of Sicily. The grapes come from Licodia Euboea and grow in fresh climate at 450 meters above the sea, at the foot of the Ibleic plateau. The harvesting takes place in late September and the grapes are then macerated shortly before the fermentation process begins. The final wine ages then 6-8 months in steel tanks.

Presentation of the vineyard

Gulfi's wines is the fruit of Vito Catania's hard work to develop the vineyard which has been in the family estate for 3 generations . In 2011, Gulfi was appointed the "Vineyard of the year" by the wineguide " Migliori vini d'Italia " ( Italy's best wines). With great respect for the ancient Sicilian wine tradition and recognizing the importance of following the laws of nature in agriculture, Vito has since the 90s developed and modernized the family production of wine . Gulfi's wines are todayorganically grown and produced primarily with local Sicilian grape varieties, creating wines with local Sicilian character. The grapes are grown on small typically Sicilian trees called " Alberello " to be able to grow without fertilizers and pesticides in Sicily's relatively extreme climate . Today, the property represents 70 hectars of land in the best parts of the southeastern Sicily's vineyard. The couple figurating on the winelabel symbolizes Eros ( God of love ) and Psyche (Godess of beauty) whose illicit love gave rise to the desire . Gulfi wines has borrowed and adapted this story in which Gulfi represents Eros , whose love for the beautiful Sicilian soil and landscape produces wines that are a true expression of lust. Not a bad metaphor !

Sommelier's advice

Ruby red color with violet tints. Strong but subtle aromas of red berries dominated by raspberry and black currant. A mellow and "juicy" flavor with a freshness which is unique for the wines from the temperate oriental south coast. To accompany various typical Italian dishes such as pasta, risotto, pizza, antipasti, but also fish or chicken.
