Brezza Barolo Sarmassa 2014 - Red
The soil or the "terroir" which borders to La Morra in the north of the village of Barolo is called "Marne di Santa'Agata Fossili" (calcareous clay). The best vintages are produced here those years that have been dry, since dry weather gives a better concentration to the grapes. It is these drier years that the limestone soil can play its role when it despite low rainfall, may retain moisture for the vines. Brezza's Sarmassa is manufactured in the same manner as Brezza's other Barolos, with the only difference that the maceration process is somewhat longer since the Sarmassa grapes have slightly softer tannins than those of other Barolos. A longer maceration is usually associated with a more modern style of production of Barolo wines.

Presentation of the vineyard
Azienda Agricola Brezza is one of the big names when talking Barolo wines. The vineyard is located very close to the village of Barolo, just south of the town of Alba in Piedmont. The vineyard dates back to 1885 and takes its name from Giacomo Brezza who along with his father Antonio, started bottling the wine for the first time in 1910. Today is the 4th generation Brezza that runs the business which today extends over 16.5 hectares vineyards. 12.5 hectars in Barolo, 1 in the municipality of Monforte, 1 in the municipality of Novello and 2 hectars in Alba. 80,000 bottles of wine are produced every year.
A garnet red color with orange/red tints. A spicy fragrance with notes of sandalwood and pine, ripe strawberries and plums. A softbodied fruity flavor with good texture. Fine but present tannins. A spicy finish with notes of musk, lightly floral. A great Barolo to be enjoyed to the memorable dinners in which game or red meat is the main ingredient.
