Laccento from Montalbera is a red wine from Castagnole Monferrato in the north-western Italy’s Piedmont, near the town of Asti, made from 100% Ruch\u00e8 grapes. Ruch\u00e8\u00a0is not as well known as Barbera or Nebbiolo from\u00a0the\u00a0Piedmont, but well so worth to\u00a0try! The Ruch\u00e8 grapes have probably their\u00a0origin in the French Burgundy and has been taken to Monferrato by\u00a0monks, who planted the grape variety in Italy. This is a\u00a0wine that was rarely\u00a0sold, but was kept in the winemaker family for festive occasions. Laccento is produced from grapes grown on at least 25-year-old vines. 95% of the grapes are picked almost overripe and the other 5% are picked shortly before the perfect ripeness and are then placed on wooden grids during a certain time. The wine is then produced according to\u00a0the traditional method with cool\u00a0maceration followed by the\u00a0fermentation. The total fermentation process takes 12-14 days.
