Presentation vineyard

Château Balestard La Tonnelle is located on the heights of Saint-Émilion, in the heart of the prestigious clay and limestone plateau on Bordeaux's right bank. The estate extends over 10.5 hectares of exceptional terroir and has been designated a Grand Cru Classé since 1955. The wine castle combines history, elegance and innovation to produce wines of rare aromatic complexity. With grape varieties dominated by Merlot, complemented by Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The property was sold in 1923 to the Capdemourlin family who still own it. Jacques Capdemourlin took over the management in 1974. Over time, the estate has been modernized, including new winemaking facilities (“chai”) and technology for both vinification and environmental sustainability.

Sommelier's advice

A dark ruby red color with terracotta hues. The nose seduces from the first moment with an explosion of ripe black fruit aromas, such as blackberries, black cherries and blackcurrants, enhanced by delicious notes of vanilla, cocoa and mocha. The palate is full-bodied and velvety, revealing perfectly integrated tannins with great finesse. Notes of sweet spices, liquorice and precious wood enrich the aromatic profile. To serve with flavorful dishes such as pork fillet with mushroom stew, grilled lamb chops or grilled entrecôte with pepper sauce. It also goes well with meat stews. Preferably with an aged camembert or fruity hard cheese.

Château Balestard La Tonnelle – Saint Emilion Grand Cru – Red wine is made from 75% Merlot, 5% Cabernet Sauvignon and 25% Cabernet Franc. Half of the grapes are vinified in steel tanks and the other half in concrete vats. The finished wine is then aged in French oak barrels, half of which are new and half have already been used in a previous vinification.
