Re Manfredi - Aglianico de Vulture 2013 - Red

Taglio del Tralcio is made of 100% Aglianico grapes. This is a softer and more modern version thanks to the special "appassimentomethod" where the branches of the ripe grapes are cut off. The nutrient flow between the roots and the twigs is snapped off and the still green twigs search instead for liquid in the grapes. This process lasts between 7-10 days and as a result, the concentration of the flavors in the grapes increase and that the tannins soften. The handpicked grapes are then cool macerated for 10 days before the fermentation begins. The finished wine is aged six months in oak barrels and then another 6 months in the bottle.

Presentation of the vineyard

Re Manfredi is located in the Basilicata wine district, not far from the town of Venosa, in one of the most authentic parts of Italy. The Vulture volcano dominates the landscape with its 1300 meters height. The volcano lava together with the clay and calcareous soil create unique conditions for viticulture. The winery was created in 1998 and includes 120 hectares of vineyards. The  vnification is carried out using the most modern technology, but with consideration and respect given to tradition and nature. The vineyard includes a large wine cellar where the wine is stored in oak barrels.

Sommelier's advice

Beautiful ruby red color. Powerful aromas with balsamic touches and fruit reminding of khaki and cherries. A full-bodied palate with soft tannins. A long round creamy and fruity finale. A certain, for the region, typical minerality mixed with a pleasant fruity sweetness. A wine to drink with red meats, to stuffed pasta such as lasagna and canelloni or with stronger cheeses at the end of the meal.
