Château Thuerry "Les Abeillons" - Red

"Les Abeillons" is produced from Grenache-, Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah grapes. The harvest is done manually and the vinification is carried out according to the traditional method. The grapes are heat macerated after the fermentation in order to extract the maximum amount of tannins and to provide structure. The Syrah and the Grenache are mixed together immediately after the harvest, while the Cabernet is handled separately. Approximately one third is stored in oak barrels, mostly the Cabernet Sauvignon before putting together the final composition of the wine.

Presentation of the vineyard

Thuerry Chateau is located in the inner parts of the Var department in the village of Villecroze. The vineyard represent 300 hectars of land in the middle of the Provençal forest. Jean-Louis Croquet, former head of the market study and opinion firm Sofres, bought the vineyard 1997. The vineyard is regularly visited by Francis Ford Coppola who besides the filmmaking is also wine grower in California. Everything is explainable; Jean-Louis' son, Thomas Mars is namely married to Sofia Coppola, Francis Ford's daughter.

Sommelier's advice

Dark red color with purple hues. Aromas of black currants, cherries and blackberries, with spicy hints of white pepper and nutmeg. The taste is round, warm and full-bodied with well-structured tannins. The finale has aromas reminding of chocolate and vanilla. This wine can support a long storage of more than 5 years. To pair with heavier meat dishes such as a Daube Provençale or with the cheese board.
