Presentation of the vineyard
Château de l'Engarran belongs to the Grill family since 5 generations. Today it's the two sisters, Constance Rerolle-Grill and Diane Losfelt Grill who control the wine production since 30 years. However, it all started already in 1632, when Henry d'Engarran, who had public responsibilities for the Languedoc region, bought the vineyard from the noble lords in Saint-Georges d'Orques which is a villages located just outside Montpellier in southern France. He decides to start the wine production in his own name. Later, Jean Vassal became the owner when he received the property as a wedding gift from his wife and he was the person who built the beautiful castle building as it looks today. Saint Georges d'Orques has a soil which is similar to the one of Châteauneuf-du-Pape with its red soil covered with round stones. The wines from here have long aging potential and always contain a certain freshness.
A shiny garnet red color. The nose is intense and generous with elements of red pepper and blackberries. The palate is soft and "fleshy" with a nice volume that gives a sense of biting in red summer berries. Light aromas of menthol, a few tones of pepper and ivy that stimulate the taste buds. A great balance of this ripe wine that is easy to understand. The finale has aromas of strawberries. A wine to serve together with good friends over grilled meat, cured meat or to chocolate.
