Vignoble Art Mas - Il était une fois... - red
Il était une fois ... means "Once upon a time ..." and is a tribute to Xavier Combe's grandfather whose vines until today are cultivated like "at that time". The wine is organic and is produced from 70% Syrah and 30% Grenache exposed in eastern direction. Xavier is interested in biodynamic viticulture and includes the astral criterias in the winegrowing. The wine is cultivated in Visan, a small town between the more famous Vacqueyras and Gigondas.

Presentation of the vineyard
Art Mas originates from the Provençal word "Harmas" meaning wild garden where the laws of nature govern. Xavier Combe is a young winemaker, who at just 27 years has taken over the family property of 7 hectares back in 2009. Mainly Syrah, but also Grenache is cultivated in a rocky soil of clay and limestone located in Visan. Visan is a small village situated 10-15 km north from the well-known Vacqueras and Gigondas, in the middle of the best part of the southern Côtes-du-Rhône district. The winegrowing is organic, with a tendency to biodynamics, which means that the entire ecosystem and the astral impact on agriculture is taken into account.
An intense and beautiful ruby red color. The nose has fruity hints of strawberry, black- and red currants. Even the taste has a soft fruity attack, full-bodied and concentrated with a nice freshness in the final with good length. A quality wine that can be enjoyed at very varied occasions; as good together with a simple plate of cheese and charcuteries between good friends, as served together with a rich game stew a Saturday night.
